Spicy Autumn Curves

Soothing fall colors give this quilt a relaxed, cozy look. Doesn't it make you crave a cup of spiced tea or hot chocolate?

Mixed prints in gold, brown, coral, tan, cinnamon, black and cream blend beautifully in this half ring pattern. Some fabrics were from a collection of 10” precuts, others came from my stash remnants. After sewing and arranging the 8” blocks, I added borders made up of 4” x 8” rectangles.

Quilting with medium beige thread and a gentle wave ruler, I created an allover grid that looks similar to netting. Spicy Autumn Curves finished at 56” square. I believe I'll keep this one for myself.

Cross Cut

This little quilt was fun to design and sew. I like small ones because they go together quickly. 

I cut signature block centers of brown, gold and orange prints from a 10” square precut pack, adding white corner triangles for contrast. Black and white prints make the center crosses stand out.

Nine squares made a 33” square finished wall hanging. I quilted in diagonal, horizontal and vertical lines with black/gray/white variegated thread, using a serpentine eyelash stitch.

Such a nice design with plenty of interest, this one will reside on my dining room wall for a while.  Now, on to my next idea!

Sweet Dreams Chevrons

My most recent creation is a soft pink and gray quilt for a cute redheaded newborn baby girl named Ella Kate. 

 

I sewed three inch wide strips of pink prints to white and gray solids, then cut them into 5 1/2” squares. Set on point, they form a quick chevron pattern. Pink fabric with white polka dots was perfect for the back and binding, and cotton flannel made a light weight batting. Machine quilting with pink thread, a quarter inch from the seams, repeated the zig zag pattern. 

 

I washed, then fluffed the finished quilt in the dryer to give it that vintage soft crinkled look, just right for cuddling.
