Easy Does It

Last week I finished the first of two quilts that I pieced while we were camping. This tumbler design is a cute one, quick and easy to sew! Bright blue and fresh green with white and gray make it perfect for baby or springtime décor.

For quilting, I used white thread to straight stitch around each color layer. Two serpentine lines of quilting on the borders finished it off nicely. I used the larger white and blue dot fabric for backing. Easy Does It finished out as a 37” x 50” rectangle.

Fabric Sale Follow Up: Well, I finished washing, measuring, folding, and sorting my latest fabric bonanza. Final count for this amazing purchase was 176 flour and sugar sacks and 170 yards of quilting fabric, plus 37 hand stitched vintage quilt blocks.

It's all entered into my inventory spreadsheet, with swatches on index cards filed by color in my master notebook. If I didn't have this system in place, I'd never be able to find anything! As it is, I'm running out of space and storage bins, so I need to get busy stitching.  I'm not sure what to sew first but I already have dozens of ideas.

Windswept

Have you ever had fabric beg to be used? Those leftover pieces from last week's quilt did just that. It kept telling me that all I had to do was cut some squares and center sections in white and I had a new quilt. Well, maybe it was just voices in my head, but I couldn't resist.

I used two Crossed Canoe sections and two 5” squares in each block. I tried several arrangements and settled on diagonal bands of color. Backing and binding is a tiny lattice print in pale lavender. I quilted with white thread in straight stitch rows 1 ½” apart.

The old fashioned prints work well with the modern tone on tone white print. Windswept is a sweet snuggle quilt, 45” square finished size.  The best part is that it only took 3 days to finish since I already had most pieces cut.  A bonus quilt!

Windy Flight

During our early October camping trip, I sewed flying geese blocks (cut with my Accuquilt cutter before we left). Once home, I arranged them in groups and added a 6” border. Don't these colors of navy, gray, green, and turquoise look great together? Some of the prints repeat the triangular design of the blocks.

For the back, I cut and sewed 6” squares in the same colors, plus one flying geese square, then added double borders. I used a white and gray variegated thread and quilted randomly spaced wavy lines to give motion to the design. Windy Flight, my latest favorite quilt, is 58” square.

Refrigerator update: The saga continues but the end is in sight. I am so thankful for Lowes extended service! Since the part can't be found, they offered to refund our original purchase price for the frig! The check is on its way. Hooray!  

The down side...I have to choose a new frig and hope that it is more reliable. I know two things. 1) It won't be an LG. 2) We will absolutely buy the extended service from Lowes.
