Making Time

Recently I was in between projects, but needed a little sewing therapy. I grabbed a stack of 2” scrap strips and a box of 3 ½” half square triangles and started making blocks. I made hourglass and strip blocks at random, then laid them out on my design wall as I finished each one. I added a border of colorful dots, and quilted with white thread in a wavy design, stitched ¾” apart. The result is Making Time, a 32” by 35” mat for table or wall hanging, or maybe for the cat.

As I stitched, I thought about how much I enjoyed just sewing. Not following any pattern or design. Just playing, doing something I love. I believe it's important to make time for yourself. It is therapy, whether you're creating art, reading a book, listening to music, walking, doing yoga or meditation.

Recharge your batteries! Take a day off to play. Feed your spirit. That's what I'm doing today.

Sewing Therapy

I escaped to my sewing room last week for a few hours of stress relief therapy. Colorful and simple, these place mats whipped up quickly without a pattern. I'm calling them Summer Carnival. They ought to brighten up our kitchen!

Later, a little design work in EQ7 had me experimenting with color choices for several other summery projects. It is immensely satisfying to create beautiful things and to use up my ever growing stash of fabric. 

Did I mention that I got several yards and a couple of bolts of fabric for my birthday last month? Guess I'd better put more sewing time on my schedule.

I am not a fabric hoarder. 

I am the curator of 

an extensive private 

textile collection.

Eat. Sleep. Stitch.

That's what I've been doing lately, happily stitching and designing new projects. It's been either too hot or too rainy for yard work. What fun to escape to my craft room for a few hours every day! After home chores are done, it's time to relax with my sewing machine, rotary cutter, and design board.

My latest creation, Lemon Pepper Squares, is a versatile size that can be used as a wall hanging, table topper, child-size or lap quilt. Finished dimensions will be 36" x 48". 

I'm working on the backing now, a simple All Black And White design with 4” squares left over from the front.
