Honey Sweet

Here's an adorable quilt for a cute little sweetheart.

Baby quilts are always fun to make, but this one was particularly special since I included fabric given to me by the little one's grandmama.

Soft peachy pink, muted aqua and shiny gold arrows blend well with a light gold batik dot fabric. Hexagons and triangles are arranged in a honeycomb style design.

For quilting, I created a new allover pattern using a curved ruler with light tan thread. I really like the results and will use it again.

Honey Sweet finished at 40” square. It's been done for a while but finally found its way home this past weekend.

Using The Good Stuff Now

A few weeks ago, I wrote about unfinished quilt blocks made by Granny Rose. At first, I put them away, but I decided they need to be displayed so we can enjoy some of them. The perfect solution occurred to me last week, so I got busy sewing. The result: New throw pillows for our living room! 
 
The blocks were different sizes and colors, so I used charcoal and cream ticking fabric as borders to blend them all together. I sewed a new small block with pieces of her flour sack material and solid black. They look fabulous, and we get to see her beautiful work every day. 

A lot of people put back things and never get to use them. I decided several years ago to use my favorite items often instead of saving them only for special occasions. As far as I am concerned, every day is special. I wear nice clothes, jewelry, and good perfume whenever I want. The towels hanging in our bathrooms aren't just to look at, they are to be used.  

What's the point of having nice things if you can't enjoy them? 

Use the good stuff now.

Young Frankenstein

My favorite Halloween movie is Young Frankenstein. It's a comedy instead of a thriller or horror film, but I don't care. It's just hysterical, no matter how many times or what time of year I see it.  

Mel Brooks' 1974 black and white film, co-written by Gene Wilder, is the perfect parody of the old Universal Studios horror classics. 

Wilder, Marty Feldman, Terri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Cloris Leachman, Kenneth Mars, Gene Hackman, and Peter Boyle are so funny and perfectly cast in their roles. The “walk this way” routine and other gags are timeless, flowing smoothly from scene to scene.

Enjoy Little Things

You might not realize it or take the time to notice, but the little things in life are special. A hug, a smile, or a kind word can make someone's day. Watching the sun rise or set, seeing a hummingbird feed, walking in a field of wildflowers, hearing rain on your roof. The breeze in your hair, the delicate smell of a rose, the call of a whippoorwill, the lapping of waves on the beach. Sitting on the porch, cooking a simple meal, sharing a peaceful moment with someone you love. A glass of wine, a favorite movie, a good book. So many images, scents, tastes, sounds, and feelings come to mind. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, think about what brings you joy.
