Fresh Air |
Pastel
stripes paired with crisp white give this hexagon quilt a fresh look.
The project went together quickly since there are only two fabrics.
I
enjoyed piecing with Violet, my sweet painted and restored Singer
99K. Jerold reinstalled her motor so that I didn't have to hand crank
all those pieces. I love sewing with my vintage machines and this
purple one looks right at home in my sewing room!
Straight
stitch quilting along the seam lines was done on the Janome 9450 with a light blue
thread. Fresh Air finished at 50” x 53” in size. I used white and
blue polka dot backing and a solid blue binding.

Here's a super easy baby quilt for you!
I
came up with this nine block layout while playing with scraps cut with the
Dynamic die. Hot pink and bright orange fabrics look brilliant with
white accents, along with gray micro dot and multicolored paisley
borders.
I
quilted with white thread using a small serpentine stitch. Energetic
finished out at 34” square, a great size for baby, table mat or
wall hanging.
These
shapes can be used to make many different blocks, depending on
color placement. I tried out several before choosing one. It's the
same die I used for Lavender Sensations in late August, and I have
more already sketched out in Electric Quilt.
Headed
back to the quilt factory, as my husband calls my sewing room. See you next week.

Sundance |
Bright
yellow and orange batiks stand out against cool pale blue in this
week's quilt. I was working on it back in August when the temps hit
the high 90's.
Classic
palm blocks look complicated but are relatively easy to sew. There are a lot of
pieces, though. I stacked them by the machine in order so I wouldn't
mix them up while sewing. Having an iron and pressing mat next to me
helped as well.
I
added 3” borders, so Sundance finished at 55” square. Quilting
with pale blue thread, I sewed a serpentine stitch 4” apart in a
grid pattern.
I
can't wait to try other color combinations and layouts, maybe even a
scrappy version. So many possibilities!

Spin-Off |
Here
I go again, experimenting with scraps and dies.
I
started with four 2½” x 6½” cuts of three different scrap
fabrics, sewing them together. Then I cut that square with the
X-Quisite die to make the signature shape. White on white dotted
triangle corners were added, then the four blocks stitched together
to make the spinner.
Rockette,
my trusty Singer 500A needed a little exercise and she handled all
the piecing with ease. I separated the blocks with 2” sashing and
added 4” borders around the perimeter to make Spin-Off 48”
square. I used a utility stitch to quilt in rows using off-white thread.
It's
a perfect little quilt to add to my ever growing donation stack. That
doesn't mean my scrap collection is shrinking, because I believe they
are multiplying like bunnies while I'm not looking. Or maybe I'm
collecting more material than I'm using. Did I mention I was gifted
14 tubs of fabric the other day? We're either gonna need a bigger
house or I have to find a way to sew more!
It's
National Sewing Month, so I challenge you all to sew or do something
creative in your sewing space every day...have fun!
