Memorial Stars

My Memorial Day quilt is a patriotic table topper that could also be used as a wall hanging. Designed in Electric Quilt 7, it features eight inch Road to Oklahoma blocks arranged in four by four rows. These red, cream and blue stars and stripes fabrics have been in my stash for a while, just waiting for the right project.

Enjoy Memorial Day...I'll be in the sewing room cutting up fabric and stitching it back together.

And please don't forget what today is really all about:

Memorial Day is an occasion for remembering those who died while serving their country in the United States armed forces. It’s not to be confused with Veteran’s Day, an annual holiday in November that honors everyone who served in the U.S. military.  Memorial Day was first observed in 1868, when it was called Decoration Day, a day set aside to honor the 600,000 U.S. citizens who died in the Civil War.

We come, not to mourn our dead soldiers, but to praise them.  ~Francis A. Walker

Random Thoughts.

Peacefulness.

Answers.

Renewal.

Magic.

May Flowers And War On Weeds

This year's weather has been a bit odd. Spring was late getting here, so April and May bloomers are showing their colors together. After Saturday morning's rain, I snapped a few photos of my favorites.

This week's plan is to attack the bumper crop of poison ivy and wild ginger vine that is taking over my flower beds. Boots, long sleeves, gloves, Ivy Block, chigger spray, rake, clippers and possibly a flame thrower are the weapons of choice.

Margaritas And Mamas

Watermelon Lime Margarita
It's Cinco de Mayo so I'm celebrating by naming my latest quilt Watermelon Lime Margarita. I haven't quite finished this bright, cheerful table topper yet, but final size will be 36” square. It's been very relaxing to take my time with this project, spending an hour or so each day.

All I have left is sandwiching the layers, quilting and binding. But not today, as I plan on partaking of a few Mexican beers and/or margaritas with chips and salsa. I wouldn't want my stitching to stray off course. Arriba!

Happy early Mother's Day! I'm lucky that I am close to my mama and get to spend time with her often. I certainly don't wait until Mother's Day to let her know how much I love her. Last week we went shopping for shoes, ate lunch, and enjoyed driving along country roads looking at spring flowers. At eighty-one years young, she is still a witty and wild redhead, and I hope I'm that sassy in another twenty years.
