Unpredictable April Camping

We just got home from two weeks at Defeated Creek Campground. Springtime camping in Tennessee can be a little unpredictable. We experienced whistling wind, pouring rain, magnificent lightning, a bit of frost, sunshiny blue skies and gorgeous sunsets. Temperatures ranged from 31 to 80 degrees.

Nevertheless, we were prepared and enjoyed most of our getaway on the shores of Cordell Hull Lake. One evening there were eighteen deer grazing together only fifty feet from our site, but they bolted before I could get the camera out.

This week you'll find us at home, making up for lost time. I'll be zipping around on the Mustang mower and pulling weeds out of my flower beds. A trip to the garden center is in order for some pretty new blooms. It's work but I'm rested up and ready to dig.

Sixty Is Sensational

I'm celebrating my sixtieth birthday this week. WOW. That's an age I once thought of as ancient. Now that I'm here, sixty doesn't seem so old after all.   I'm not too fat and I'm still very sassy.   I'm healthy and have a reasonable number of brain cells left.

I'm enjoying my life, my home, and my sweet husband. We're happily retired. Every morning is the start of a new adventure, whether it's  cleaning house or going camping.

I'm lucky to have the power to choose how I want to experience life. I've learned to slow down and savor every moment. And that the feeling of having enough is liberating.

What's not to like about all that? Here's to my magical and sensational sixties!

Responsibility

re·spon·si·bil·i·ty

: the quality or state of being responsible, answerable, or accountable
: a duty or task that one is required or expected to do
: something that one should do because it is morally right or legally required
: a person or thing for which one is responsible

There are many people in the world who never, ever, take responsibility. They slide through life declaring “It's not my fault” or “That's not my problem.” They lie to cover up mistakes, to get out of sticky situations and to avoid accountability.

I prefer those folks who do the right thing. They take care of their family, help others, abide by the rules, and behave in a responsible manner. They are the friends you'd like to have, and the ones you'd rather be around. Most of them do these things automatically, happily and without hesitation, because that's how they are made.

I'm grateful that my parents taught me responsibility, because I expect that the good Lord or karma will hold me accountable one day.
